A new company lists Canadian property

Jun 18, 2018

The Seattle- based company Zillow, announced last year that it planned to feature Canadian property listings on its' site. They will have a direct listing feed from Century 21 Canada.
Millions of consumers visit Zillow.com and the other major online real estate site in the U.S.,Trulia.com totaling 170 million people, according to Errol Samuelson, Zillow’s Vancouver-based industry development officer. Initially, they anticipated posting the listings earlier this year but expect it to start later this year.

Zillow’s listings offer complete sales histories, including the selling price of homes.
The Toronto Real Estate Board considers this private information and are asking the Supreme Court of Canada to appeal the latest legal decision that ruled selling prices could be released on some password-protected brokerage sites.

Errol Samuelson states they know U.S. buyers are interested in purchasing Canadian real estate and connecting them with an agent to navigate the sale.
Although the company maintains it doesn’t compete with real estate agents they have a trademarked Zillow Instant Offers feature which provides a forum where homeowners in some markets can receive offers from buyers.

It is not clear what the impact of Zillow would be in the Canadian real estate market.
